03 honegger philatelie Wissenswertes

Our title illustration of the 2013 Honegger catalogue

The cover of 09.12.1850 with two horizontal Zurich 4, types II and IV of Zurich according the book at the Irchel it shows the front cancelled with the black P.P.s, which were used from 01.10.50 in the city of Zurich. This cancellation on Zurich 4 is exceedingly rare and therefore represents one the top rarities of classic old Switzerland philately. It is logically missing in most collections, since there are only two such covers/fronts known altogether.

The margins on our title illustration have full to large margins and are without any defects. Photo certificates of Nussbaum, Hunziker and Marchand.

For a long time this rarety was unknown. For this reason it is not even mentioned in the "A propo Classic Switzerland". Jakob Gnägi specifies the piece however in his work "The Zürich Kantonal Issues of 1843" under the number 8.4.3. It embellished the collection of Dr. Lehmann and came through Ernst Müller into the trade.

Second known piece (ex-collection Anderegg) of 2. November 1850 goes from Zurich to Käpfnach near Horgen. Despite a tiny hole in the left stamp we can be certain that also this letter belongs to the largest old Switzerland rareties.

The postage of 8 rappen does not show- as written in most certificates –to show an overfranking. Again there the inestimable work gives “A propos old Switzerland” information, where it clearly states again and again(see page 107 or 109) that the postage was converted according to the Swiss federal decree of the 8.Juni 1949, which started from the 1.Oktober 1849 and appliced correctly into the new tariff.

If you possess similar old Switzerland rareties and wish to sell them, we are highly interested to buy them and would be pleased to hear from you.
